Obituary

On September 9, 2025, Milka left this world peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, in her 81st year. A force of nature, Milka was known for her strength, resilience, and unwavering determination. She was a woman who got things done—always knowing what needed to be done and doing it with grace and grit.

Born in Croatia, Milka emigrated to Canada, settling in Wawa, Ontario, in the 1960s where she began a new chapter of life with her beloved husband, Ivan. Together, they built a family and eventually settled in Oakville, Ontario. There, Milka and her family were an integral part of a vibrant community of family, friends, neighbours, and especially members of the Croatian faith and cultural community. Her life was filled with joyful celebrations from baptisms to birthdays to family gatherings and church events, each reflecting the love and connections she cherished. For many years, she was a busy working woman, managing home life and work life. As we all know, she was no less busy in her retirement.

Milka was a woman of deep faith and tireless work ethic. Fiercely loyal and devoted to her family, she lived a full and meaningful life, nurturing her home and family with care and love. She was a masterful baker and gardener, delighting in sharing her bounty with family, friends and neighbours.

Her grandchildren were the heart of her world, bringing her immeasurable joy and purpose.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, survived by her children, grandchildren, a brother and sister in Croatia, nieces, nephews, and a large extended family and circle of friends, all of whom were important to her. Milka was deeply loved and cherished by all who knew her.

During her brief illness, her family and friends rallied to provide her with the support she needed, both physical and spiritual. Staff at OTMH, Cancer Care Clinic and Ontario Health at Home were exceptional caregivers. She was deeply appreciative of the care she received.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
