Obituary

Mike died peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on October 1, 2026.

A true Oakvillian, Mike lived his entire life in Oakville. He attended OTHS and enjoyed a career at Bell Canada for more than 35 years.

Mike was a devoted dad who loved his son Taylor deeply and took great pride in being there for him as he grew up, whether it was coaching Taylor’s soccer and ball-hockey teams, being a Cub leader, taking Taylor fishing and skiing and enjoying many cottage weekends together. He loved watching Taylor play ball-hockey and football and proudly watched Taylor coach rep football in recent years.

Mike also enjoyed playing sports, especially lacrosse in his younger years. Into his 60s, he still played hockey, ball-hockey, golfed, skied and hunted, with fishing being his true passion. Mike was an accomplished handyman and could always be counted on to fix something, whether at home, or for friends and neighbours. He was known for always being willing to help anyone at any time.

Mike loved to talk—especially over a beer (or two) with friends. For more than 45 years, some of Mike’s happiest times were weekends and vacations at “Reynold’s” cottage. Mike was a regular at the clubhouse, where he and his friends enjoyed a few drinks, many stories and plenty of laughs. Dave and Mike are together again enjoying another beer, continuing the conversation right where they left off.

Mike will always be lovingly remembered by his son Taylor, and his former wife Julie (Jelinek). He leaves behind his sister Kim (Tim), brothers Robin (Donna), Gary (Suzanne), cousins and many nieces and nephews. Mike loved his time with the many relatives in the Jelinek family, sharing numerous meals, celebrations and holidays together.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

A celebration of life will be held on October 8 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at the Oakville Power Boat Club. Casual dress only as Mike wouldn’t want it any other way.
