Michael John Charette (Houlton)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael John Charette (Houlton), 72, on April 21, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Michael was born in Toronto, Canada, on July 20, 1949, to parents John and Eve Houlton. Michael lived a spirited and adventurous life. Flying, hitch-hiking or on his trusted Harley, he travelled the country north to south and coast to coast, connecting with people—politicians, celebrities and common folk—along the way. A passionate and proud Canadian, he immersed himself in political projects, from his "Buy Canadian" campaign, his numerous attempts for positions in different levels of government and his letter to the editor contributions to newspapers throughout the years. He was equally passionate for our national past-time, attending the games and practices of NHL greats and family members alike, playing hockey until his illness forced him to lay down his stick. With a stockpile of stories from his adventurous life, Michael was a captivating and vivacious speaker, entertaining and capturing the hearts of friends and strangers alike. He leaves behind his beloved family and all the friends he has made along the way, especially Carol Blake and Steve Middleton who will miss him dearly.

Michael was preceded in death by his fathers John Houlton and Lomer Charette and his nephew, Kelly Jupp. He leaves behind his mother, Eve Charette, sisters, Patricia Jupp and Maureen Grandis, brothers Brian Houlton and Daniel Houlton and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
