Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Michael David Brown of Oakville, at the age of 83. Mike died as he lived, fiercely independent, with his loyal dog and constant companion, 'Tab' at his side. Mike is predeceased by his wife of over 40 years, Barbara Rankine Brown (June 15, 2000). He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Brown, son-in-law Rick Tait, and granddaughter Kayleigh Tait-Brown, who was his absolute pride and joy. Never has a grandfather been more proud of his grandchild, and he let Kayleigh know this on every possible occasion. He will be deeply missed. Mike was born on October 3, 1932, in London, England. After meeting Barbara while she was in England visiting her parents, he followed her back to Canada, where she had lived since she was a teen. They married 5 months later, on October 11, 1958, and lived in the Montreal area, until the family moved to Oakville in 1984. Mike was a metallurgical engineer who enjoyed a long career at Menasco Aerospace until his retirement in 1999. While still working as a consultant in the industry after his retirement, he also managed to enjoy a wide range of hobbies in his spare time. He was a collector of all things mechanical. Be it his TR7, cameras, trains or model planes, Mike reveled in restoring and rebuilding his treasures, and could repair just about anything. He also enjoyed the hunt of discovering new bits and pieces for his collection, and could be seen out every Saturday morning, combing through the garage sales of Oakville, accompanied by Tab, of course. Mike was an avid ham radio operator, and a member of the Oakville Radio Club. He transmitted world-wide as VA3GRL, and truly valued all the friends and acquaintances he made through this life-long hobby. Many thanks are extended to Mike's physician, Dr. Roland Amolins, for his years of care and patience. We would also like to thank the many members of Oakville emergency services who attended at Mike's residence. Mike's neighbours (especially Wayne and Norma) were always there for him when he needed them, and we cannot thank them enough for all their help at this difficult time. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral. Celebration of life to take place on Sunday, March 13, 2016, from 1 -4 p.m. at the Warplane Heritage Museum, 9280 Airport Road, Mt. Hope, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Warplane Heritage Museum (where Mike was a sustaining member), or Toronto Wildlife Centre (because a lot of raccoons are going hungry, now that he's gone). The family would appreciate on-line condolences left at Kopriva Taylor. Any contact information for friends and colleagues would also be appreciated, so that we may proceed with the memorial service without omitting anyone.
'Dad, give Mom a big hug for us, and tell her that we miss her."
