Passed away peacefully June 19, 2024 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Beloved wife of Geoffrey, adored mother to John, loved grandmother to Brooke and Logan. Sister to Patsy, Yvonne, Vern, Aubrey and Terry. Predeceased by her brothers David and Harold and parents Beaton and Flora Smith.
Melvina worked for more than 25 years as an advocate for women in Halton and served as co-founder, and later became the Executive Director of the Halton Women's Centre.
She was twice nominated for the Order of Ontario and was recognized by receiving the Province's Leading Women, Building Communities Award in 2008. In 2012 Melvina was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal and in 2013 she received the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship.
She was a Reiki Master, Certified Life Skills Coach and Transformative Mindfulness Facilitator. She was a prolific poet who wrote of the women who inspired her and her experiences of life along the way.
She was an outstanding example to her family, friends and community and will be truly missed by all.
