Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in his eighty-fifth year. Loving husband to Beverley for nearly sixty years, loved father to Rick (Sharron) of Oakville and Randy (Judy) of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Cherished grandfather of Jaymie (Rob) and Scott (Elisa). Dear brother of Marge (Jack) and brother-in-law to Rhoda. Predeceased by sister Bernice (Ron) and brothers-in-law Charles (Jean) and George Berquist. Mel served overseas with the Royal Regiment of Canada, he retired in 1986 after forty years with Stelco and had been a member of Pioneer Memorial United Church for over fifty years. Mel had a passion for gardening and being Mr. Fixit for family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Pioneer Memorial United Church, 1974 King St. East (between Kenilworth and Parkdale Avenues), Hamilton on Saturday, July 25, 2009. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. followed by a light lunch and reception. In lieu of flowers contributions to Pioneer Memorial United Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
