May Lily Isaac
October 21, 1933 – April 25, 2024
May Lily (Robertson) Isaac passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Isaac, May was the loving and much-loved mother of Kate (Daniel), Geoff (Joven), and Andrea (Johnny) and devoted grandmother to Colin, Benoit and Maxime Thibault. May was very close to the children of her late sister Peggy Smyth (née Margaret Robertson) and loved spending time with nephew Terry, late nephew Tim (Sherri), and niece Valerie (Richard). There is no question that she was the heart of our family, and although health issues had slowed her down in last few years, we were happy to see her on her feet and smiling hugely at her 90th birthday celebration.
Born and raised in Montreal, May married Bob in 1960 and the couple enjoyed some travel in Europe before starting their family and settling down in Oakville. With her three children still in school, May worked hard on her own studies and received a diploma in Library Techniques from Sheridan College in 1980 and then her Bachelor of Arts diploma (with her name on the Dean's Honour List) from McMaster University in 1981.
Her return to the full-time workforce included positions in the business libraries of Abitibi-Price, Shell Canada, and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), from which she retired in the late 1990s.
Following Bob's death in 1996 and the subsequent attention to life business, she began seeking new adventures, culminating in over a decade's worth of mementoes and meticulously documented scrapbooks from her travels to western Canada, Washington, New York, the UK, and numerous countries in Europe, as well as China, Tunisia, South Africa and the Black Sea area.
May loved to recount stories from her life and travels and, as a lifelong learner, she was always informed on current events and interested in a good discussion. An avid walker, she was a very familiar sight to fellow residents and small business workers in downtown Oakville, and is fondly remembered by many. Her passions also included volunteer work with the Oakville Historical Society and furthering her knowledge and appreciation of fine art. May was a friend to many, and her calendars and files of cards and letters are testament to numerous long-term friendships, some dating back to high school, and a lively social calendar full of visits, events and dinners throughout most of her life.
She will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered!
