Obituary

Ready to be with Norman, Maureen passed peacefully on Thursday, June 21, 2018, in her 84 th year at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, always grateful for the love and support of friends and family. Beloved wife for 59 years of Norman (Johnson), loving and proud mother of Graham (Suzanne) of Grand Cayman and Kim (Michael) of Burlington. Proud Grandy to and sadly missed by her grandchildren: Jessica and Heather (Graham) and Alex, Ryan and Graham (Kim). Predeceased by her parents, Jack and Jane Hoggins, and her brother Jack Hoggins. Dearly missed by her sister Audrey (Gordon) Reilly and Sister-in-law Olive Mellis (Ron) of Oakville. Respected Aunt of Paul Reilly and Tracy Sternbach (Reilly), and of Ron, Terry and Kevin Mellis.

Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England on December 18th, 1933, Maureen and the "love of her life" Norman immigrated to Oakville in 1955 upon completion of his service with the RAF in Germany. Maureen was an entrepreneur and in 1963 she started Young House of Fashion with the late Marjory Law with stores in Oakville, Burlington, The Kingsway and Forest Hill, which she sold in 1987. In 1981 Maureen formed a mail order and monogramming company with her dear friend Debbie Brummel called It's a Howell. Maureen taught courses in merchandising at Sheridan College and was a member of the Advisory Council for the Federal Business Development Bank. Throughout her life Maureen dedicated time to many Oakville organizations including St. Aiden's Church, Oakville Girl Guides, Appleby College Auxiliary, Downtown Business Association and the Oakville Chamber of Commerce. Maureen and Norman were always delighted when friends and family filled their Newcastle Magpie for Cèilidh's, celebrations and their annual Holiday party. A diehard Leaf fan, she never missed a game.

The family would sincerely like to thank Suki, Joy, Emily, Doreen, Glorivel, Jennifer, Jocelyn and Mila at Chartwell Classic in Oakville for their dedication to Maureen. Thank you to Maureen's GP, Dr. Skupsky, the Emergency Room staff at OTMH including Dr. Rahman, Dr. Patel, Dr. McDougall and Nick, R.N., the TGH Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic, and West Park Healthcare Centre.

Special thanks from Kim to Diana Berriman, a devoted friend to Mom and their Friday afternoon visits with wine and laughs, and to Martie Whitaker for her support through trips down memory lane, reading to Mom with her favourite coffee and spiritual friendship.

Cremation has taken place. A private family celebration of life will be held per her wishes.
