Peacefully, in Oakville on Sunday September 21, 2014, in his 84th year with his family at his side. Beloved husband for 54 years of Margaret Cecilia (nee Wilson). Loving father of Matthew Edward (Margaret Palcic), Andrew Wilson, Catherine Jane (Michael O'Brien) and Michael Anthony. Doting grandfather of Sarah, Kevin, Clare, Laura, Matthew, Graham, Benjamin and Michael.
Ted was one of nine children born to Patrick Daniel Graham and Mary Helen (Lawless), into a close-knit and devout family. He is survived by his sister, Bernice Kindellan.Born at the height of the Great Depression, his family owned a grocery store on Atlas Avenue in Toronto. As a child he worked at the store, delivered newspapers and was an altar server at Holy Rosary Church.
At the age of twelve he received a scholarship to attend De La Salle College and excelled academically while also playing football, hockey and performing in the school band.He received his B.A. from the University of St. Michael's College then entered the University of Toronto Medical School from which he graduated in 1956. He interned at St. Michael's Hospital, and was a Resident at the Hospital for Sick Children. He was a Teaching Fellow for two years at the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. He completed his Fellowship in Internal Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital and was a Teaching Fellow at the Hospital for Sick Children. On August 1, 1960 he and Margaret (Bunny) were married at St. Augustine's Church in Dundas. They moved to Oakville in 1964. By then children Ted and Andrew had arrived on the scene to be followed by Kate and Michael by the end of the decade. For many years he was the sole paediatrician in Oakville. He was dedicated and devoted to the children entrusted to his care. He was a highly respected, kind and compassionate physician. Over the course of his forty year career he was on active staff with the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, consulting staff at Milton District Hospital and courtesy staff at Joseph Brant Hospital. He was also an Assistant Clinical Professor at the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences, a pioneering allergy specialist, and an Inspector for the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics, a member of the Royal Society of Medicine, The New York Academy of Sciences, Irish American Paediatric Association, The Canadian Paediatric Society, Canadian Medical Association, Life Member of the Ontario Medical Association, and past Chair of the Research Committee of the Ontario Allergies Society. The family does not have adequate words to express our gratitude for the kind and attentive support provided by Dr. Jeffery, Dr. Pyle and her team and the wonderful staff of Ian Anderson House.Visitation will take place at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, September 25, 2014. Funeral Mass will be held 11am on Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds St., Oakville. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial masses or donations to the charities of your choice.
