It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Matt on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the age of 93. Predeceased by his loving wife Sheila of 63 years, five months prior. Adored father of Michael,Gordon(Yvette),Grant(Joyce),Alison and Stuart(Jennifer). Matt will also be fondly remembered by his six grandchildren,Megan,Adrienne,Matthew,Kathleen,Grant and Ian. Matt was predeceased by his brother James (Doris) Kennedy. He will be missed by his sister Elspeth (Allan),brothers-in-law David(Joyce), Stuart(Judith) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Matthew was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on Christmas Day. He was a WWII vet serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF) where he piloted Lancaster and Liberator bombers at a very young age. Post-war Matt served out of Nairobi, Kenya, flying Search & Air (SAR) missions. Matt then became an officer with the Edinburgh City police where he met Sheila. They immigrated to Canada in the 50's and supported 5 children while Matt worked at Ford Motor Company until retirement. He was also a volunteer at the Town of Oakville Water Air Rescue Force TOWARF, the Coast Guard auxiliary where he was Commander and an instructor. He will be fondly remembered by his extended TOWARF family.
A celebration of Matt's life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road, Oakville.
