Obituary

Matilda Rupcich (née Hecimovic)

April 6, 1955 – Oct 27, 2026

“

Matilda lived a life of extraordinary kindness, grace, generosity, and devotion to her family.

With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Matilda Rupcich, on October 27, 2026, at the age of 71.

Beloved wife of Joseph Rupcich and devoted mother of Nicholas (Sandra), Mary-Ann (Garnet), and Amanda (Daniel). Cherished grandmother of Nikolina, Lukas, Lilliana, Sienna, Mirabella, Adora, and Erik.

Loving daughter of the late Ivan and Anka Hecimovic, and dear daughter-in-law of Nikola and the late Manda Rupcic. Treasured sister of Peter Hecimovic (Rose) and Marija Zura (Veljko), and loving sister-in-law of Paul Rupcic (Nina). Dear aunt to Paul, John, Jeremy, Ivo and the late Ana, and lovingly remembered by their families, her cousins, extended family, and many friends in Canada, US, Argentina and Croatia.

Born in Bukovac, Croatia, on April 6, 1955, Matilda moved to Canada, in 1974. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Joseph. They married on April 30, 1977, in a joyful double wedding alongside her brother Peter and his wife Rose, a celebration that marked the beginning of two marriages and a lifetime of closely shared family memories.

“

Her legacy lives on through her family and through the example she set of loving generosity, strength, hard work and humility.

An accountant by trade, Matilda later brought her skills and dedication to supporting Joseph’s business as their family grew. Her caring nature extended throughout the neighbourhood they called home, where she helped ensure that her children, nephews, parents, grandchildren and in-laws were all looked after.

She was the family’s math tutor, a volunteer driver for school trips, and often the most enthusiastic cheerleader at her children’s games. That same pride and encouragement carried into the next generation, as she celebrated her grandchildren’s accomplishments and cheered them on for as long as she was able.

Matilda lived a life of extraordinary kindness, grace, generosity, and devotion to her family. Completely selfless, she gave her love, time, and energy without ever asking for anything in return. To those closest to her, she was a living saint, a woman whose goodness was reflected in the countless ways she cared for others.

An incredible wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, cousin, aunt, and friend, Matilda touched many lives. Her legacy lives on through her family and through the example she set of loving generosity, strength, hard work and humility.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to hospital staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their compassion and support, while Matilda was in their care.

Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home (64 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville, ON L6K 1E1) on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 5pm to 9pm, with prayer service at 8pm. A funeral mass will take place at Holy Trinity Croatian Catholic Church (2110 Trafalgar Rd, Oakville, ON L6H 7H2) on October 30, 2026, at 10am, followed by burial at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery (1149 Dundas St W, Oakville, ON L6H 7C9).

Donations in Matilda’s memory may be made to Holy Trinity Croatian Parish Church.

Forever loved, and always in our hearts.
