Obituary

Dearly loved mother of Geri Rabeau (John) and David Sutherland (Shirley). Proud grandmother of Michelle (Michael) Rabeau and Paul (Marion) Rabeau; Michael (Tamara) Sutherland and Chris (Jen) Sutherland. Great- Nana of Paige, Mack, Maddy, Maclean and Patrick and Eli. She loved her family fiercely.

Predeceased by her much loved husband of 56 years, Jack (Lt. Col retired John Sutherland); sister Kathleen Render and mother and father Gerry and Tip Mellor.

Margaret was born in London England. During WW2 she worked at the BBC and volunteered as a fire-fighter with "the girls". In 1943 Maggie went on a date with a dashing Canadian soldier, Jack Sutherland. Having only met once, and not sure they would recognize each other, Maggie told him to look for the girl holding a bunch of celery. It must have worked because they were married in March 1944. In 1946, Maggie travelled to Canada as a war bride, with her infant daughter, leaving behind her family to join her husband. They welcomed their son in 1949.

Maggie was a proud military wife. The family lived in 12 different homes across Canada and England. In 1963 they settled in Oakville, Ontario.

Maggie was known for her love of a good party, music, gardening, roses, gourmet cooking and travel. She loved her family fiercely and never miss an opportunity of introduce any one of them to whoever was near by.

For close to 50 years, Maggie volunteered weekly at the (old) Oakville Trafalgar Hospital and the Angela Bruce Chapter of the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE).

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Churchill Place, who treated Maggie like a queen for the past 10 years. We would also like to thank her carers, Stephanie, Ofelia Beth and Jean for their exceptional care.

Please raise a glass of wine or rye and water to toast this incredible woman!
