Obituary

McIntosh, Mary (nee Morgan)
March 23, 1929-August 2, 2015

Mary, our beautiful Mother and Nana with the brightest smile, passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital after a brave and valiant struggle with cancer. During her brief struggle she never complained, cheerful and joyous for each new day. Mary is pre-deceased by the love of her life, Gerald, and her infant son Barry.

Mary was born and raised in Manchester, U.K. where she met Dad, not surprisingly, at a dance club and were married soon after. Mom and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1954 settling in London, Ontario. After several more transfers including Germany, Camp Borden and Barrie they settled in Oakville where they raised their five children.

Affectionately known as Queen Mary, Mom lived life on her terms. She was happy, cheerful and generous to a fault. She was also stubborn beyond reason and there wasn't a debate she didn't win, (in her mind at least). She loved music as well as dancing and spent many weekends with Dad at ballroom dance competitions. Mom and Dad were instrumental in organizing the "Star and Garter" every Saturday night at the Bronte Legion where she could sing and dance to her hearts content. And content she was.

In her later years Mom volunteered her time at the Sir John Colborne Centre for Seniors serving lunch to the "old people" and socializing with her many friends. We were able to take her there one sunny afternoon not long before she passed, and though she couldn't be there long, she loved seeing all her friends one last time.

She loved her family more than anything and she was happiest when we were all together. She is survived by her loving and devoted sister Edna in England as well as her five children who adored her, Stephen McIntosh (Debra), Susan Jamieson (Steve), Beverly Barchan (Michael), Kim Sallows (Mike) and Glen McIntosh. As well she is survived by her eight grandchildren who she was so very proud of, Andrew (Katelyn) & Kate (Ryan), Lisa (Bart) & Gillian (Sean), Kerry (Ashley) & Kelly, Paul (Courtney) & Jenni (Danny). Also survived by her 3 great-grandchildren Luke, Hannah and Carter.

A heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff of 4 East who took such good care of Mom, with special thanks to Kara who cared for her like she was her own and to Lisa for all your support in the final hours.

Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home at 64 Lakeshore Road West, (one block east of Kerr St., 905-844-2600) Oakville on Thursday August 6th, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm where the funeral will be held on Friday August 7, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Interment at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery.

Donations can be made in Moms memory to the CNIB as they were a fantastic support for her after she was deemed "legally blind" or the Canadian Cancer Society.

"And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me."
