Mary Jane Howie passed away quietly on January 21st, at age 85, having spent final hours with her children. She will be profoundly missed by: her 4 children, Barbara Johns (nee Howie), Kathleen Howie, Glen Howie (Tanya) and David Howie (Hilary Cunningham); 9 grandchildren, Sarah (Greg Garbutt), David, Matthew, Robert, William, Benjamin, Abigail, Paige and Owen; and her 2 great-grandsons Tristan and Arthur; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and many close friends. Mary Jane is predeceased by her loving husband Barry Howie, her grandson Christopher, and her parents Russell Williams and Pauline Williams (nee Charron). Known for her firecracker spirit, strong work ethic, and intense commitment to volunteerism, Mary Jane, also sometimes called Fluff or MJ, was a proud member of Girl Guides of Canada for 50 years, as well as the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and Maple Grove United Church. She was the co-founder of Trans Canada Dental, and instrumental in furthering the logistical distribution of dental supplies across Canada, as well as co-founder of Tier Three Brokerage, helping countless dentists purchase or sell their practices in Ontario. Mary Jane strongly believed in Service Above Self and she led polio immunization campaigns in Africa and India, and outreach projects in South America and Europe. A Celebration of Life will be held at Maple Grove United Church, Oakville, Ontario on Monday, January 27th at 1:00 pm, with refreshments to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
