Martina M. Ferguson

June 5, 1923 – June 11, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Martina Ferguson at the age of 99 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

Martina was born in Tracadie, New Brunswick, June 5, 1923, the daughter of Mabel and James Babin.  She was predeceased by her husband Earl Ferguson in 1986 and her siblings, Scott, Harvey, Jim and Gloria.

Martina spent most of her life in Bathurst, New Brunswick.  In 1956 the family moved to Chatham, New Brunswick remaining there for 10 years prior to returning to Bathurst.  In 2006 at the age of 83 she moved to Oakville, Ontario to be near family.

Martina was employed by the Federal Government in Bathurst until she retired at the age of 62.  She was an avid Curler and played recreationally and competitively in the 1960s and 1970s.  In her later years she enjoyed the social and competitive aspects of regularly playing Bridge with friends.  Martina was a kind generous soul, fiercely independent with a witty sense of humour.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  She will be truly missed.

She is survived by her daughters Anne (Bob) and Sheila, grandchildren Carolyn (Wayne) and Greg (Stephanie) and great grandchildren Jacob and Lauren.

Many thanks to the staff at Oakville Senior Citizens Residence (OSCR) where she lived for 11 years and the staff at Post Inn Village where she spent the last 4 years.  The excellent care and dedication is greatly appreciated.

Special thanks to her niece Gale and her husband Louis for always being there for her prior to her move to Oakville.

A memorial mass will be held June 17, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive, Oakville, ON.  Interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date in Bathurst, New Brunswick
