Obituary

Marjorie Isabel Storie Duncan, born in Renfrew, Ontario on April 1, 1927, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025. Loving mother of Suzanne (Ray) and Mark (Kazumi) and grandmother of Connor.  Predeceased by her parents Morris and Annabelle, her husband Lloyd, her brother Glenn, and her sister Jessie. She leaves her sister Marilyn in Ottawa and her nephews Dwight (Patty), Paul (Karen), Michael (Jody) and Doug (Janet), and great nieces  Jessica, Samantha, Leanne, Jennifer, Caitlin, Jenna, and great nephew, Matthew.

A proud graduate of Queen's University in 1951, Marjorie dedicated her professional life to teaching. She and Lloyd, also an educator, understood the value of good education and they worked hard to ensure their children had the best learning opportunities.

Marjorie spent 17 fulfilling years teaching Grades 3 and 4 at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School. She took a keen interest in discovering the unique qualities of each of her students and worked hard to create a safe and supportive learning environment.  She was delighted to receive visits and life updates from her former students at her post-retirement work at local jewelry stores.

An avid reader and entertaining story-teller, Marjorie remained curious and engaged in current events and politics for most of her life. She loved to ask piercing questions and debate ideas. She was fiercely proud to be Canadian, with deep roots in the Ottawa Valley, and had a thorough appreciation of her chosen community of Oakville. She was passionate about the history of these places, and knew how to bring that history alive by focusing on the human stories behind the events and places.

Our thanks to the staff at Churchill Place, the support workers at Thistlecreek Health Care and Acclaim Health, and Dr Anthony McDowell, for the care they provided to Marjorie over the last few years. A heartfelt and special thanks to Claudette Brown, whose caring went above and beyond expectations as she helped Marjorie make the most of her last few years.

Funeral service at St. Cuthbert's Church, 1541 Oakhill Drive, Oakville, on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 2 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario or the Kerr Street Mission, Oakville would be appreciated.
