IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Elsie
Mccreery (Nee Rose)
November 25, 1919 – September 3, 2015
Passed away at Northridge Long Term Care Home in Oakville, Ontario after a twelve year battle with Alzheimer's. Marjorie is survived by her daughter Marilyn Spencer (Patrick McCarthy) of Oakville, her sister Verna Rose of Seaford, East Sussex, UK and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Gilbert McCreery, her sister Audrey Olson and brother Gerald Rose. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Marjorie grew up in Thunder Bay in what was then called West Fort William. She attended Normal School in North Bay, Ontario and began her teaching career in a one room school in Slate River, Ontario. During this time she met Gilbert and they were married just as the war began. The family moved to Edmonton, Alberta in1959 where Marjorie continued with her teaching career and was active with the ATA (Alberta Teachers Association). In her early forties, she took a year away from teaching and completed the work to graduate with her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta. After Gilbert's death, Marjorie moved to Oakville, in 1990, to be close to Marilyn, and began her world travels. She started with a trip to China, Thailand and Malaysia. This was followed by travels to Australia and New Zealand, Tunisia, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Russia as well as making numerous trips to Great Britain. She visited all the provinces of Canada and most of the American States and enjoyed several cruises to Cuba, Mexico and Latin America. After the onset of Alzheimer's her world became much smaller. A very special heartfelt thank you to the Chisholm House caregivers at Northridge Long Term Care Home where Marjorie received excellent care and touching personal attention for the 7 years she was a resident. Marjorie has been cremated. An Interment Ceremony will be held in Thunder Bay at a later date. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer's Society.
