IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Anne
Cluett
August 30, 1936 – October 8, 2023
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful Mum on Sunday October 8th, 2023, at the age of 87 following a short but brave fight with an aggressive late-stage cancer.
Daughter of Tom and Marjorie Cluett (nee Hargrave), she was born in Rugby, England and was big sister to Robert and Richard Cluett. After meeting her Canadian love, our Dad, Jim Dewar, they married in England and soon after relocated to Montreal followed by Ottawa. She was a devoted Mum to Kiki (Hans), Rick (Kelly), Steven (Jennifer), Guy (Tracy) and Kate (Dave). With 5 children, she was also blessed with 9 grandchildren (Anneka, Britta, Ryan, Ben, Kiera, Cole, Kailey, Maeve and Tom) and more recently, she was thrilled to welcome her first great-grand child, beautiful little Thea. "Nan" cherished every opportunity to spend time with them and her impact will be eternal. Her legacy is one of love, kindness, care and a sense of fun.
While Mum spent close to 40 years raising her family in Ottawa, she relocated to Oakville in 2000 where she carved out an active lifestyle along the lakeside neighbourhood. Growing up in England, she had many opportunities to explore Europe on her bike with her best friend, Barbara. So, its no surprise, later in life, she chose not to own a car and biked everywhere up until the first frost annually. You could bet by the first sign of spring, she was eager to get back out on the bike and soak up the sights along Lakeshore Road. She rode her bike up until 4 weeks ago which is unprecedented at the age of 87. She was an inspiration to many for her independence, unique sense of style, her positive attitude, energy and deep love of family.
We wish to extend our warmest appreciation to Dr. Tom Stanton for caring for our Mum over the last 23 years, the staff at OTMH for their incredible support and compassion in the short time she was in hospital and to the Halton EMS paramedics for their guidance and empathy in our most difficult moments in the last few hours of her life. A special thank you to the St. Jude's Anglican Church Parish for welcoming her into their congregation. These relationships and those at Rockcliffe Park Suites, filled her with purpose, community and close friendships which has been priceless.
In lieu of flowers, our family kindly requests that donations be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre .
A celebration of life will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church (160 William Street) in Oakville on Saturday October 14th, 2023 at 10:30am. A reception will be held at Piano Piano at 120 Thomas Street following the service where more stories and reflections will no doubt be shared. According to her wishes, she has been cremated and her ashes will be scattered at the All Saint's Church in Braunston, England and Bronte Harbour.
Ride like the wind, Mum. You are loved beyond measure and we'll look for you in every sunrise, sunset and amongst the stars.
