It is with profound sadness that the family of Marija Ćapin (nee Gudelj) announce her passing on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.  Following a brief illness Marija passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father, surrounded by the love of her family.

Marija leaves behind her husband Ivan (Ivo) of sixty years, her three children Damir (Jennifer), Michelle Kozina (Ivica) and Brian (Marija). Baka Marija's three grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She will always be fondly remembered by Steven, Adriana and Ivan.

Marija lived a life full of love, resilience, and dedication. Her journey began in the picturesque town of Zmijavci, Imotski where she was born and raised.

Anyone blessed enough to have met Marija knows first-hand how loving and thoughtful she always was.  Family, friends and strangers alike were welcomed into her home and heart with a most genuine smile and hug.  She worked tirelessly for many years to advance Croatian folklore and tradition in Canada, and volunteered countless hours at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Croatian Church in Oakville, where she was an active parishioner, member of the church choir and various church committees.

Marija's earthly departure leaves an emptiness in our lives that words cannot describe.  Her loving nature, faith in the Lord and profound kindness, will live on forever through her children and grandchildren.

Marija leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and perseverance. She is survived by her loving family and friends, who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Adriana and Ivan will always carry a piece of Baka in their hearts.

Her loving husband Ivo, will cherish their 60 years of marriage and their life of happiness together forever.

Marija's final resting place, per her wishes, will be in her birthplace of Zmijavci, Imotski, Croatia.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd W., Oakville. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10:00 am Holy Trinity Croatian Church, 2110 Trafalgar Rd., Oakville.
