Passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 31 ^st , 2015 at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in her 97 ^th year. Beloved wife of the late Ryland J. "Kelly" New. Loved mother to John (Lisa) New of London, Ontario. Cherished Mémère (grandmother) to Danielle Nicole New, Ryland Joshua New and Mary-Laure Elizabeth New. Daughter of the late Dr. Joseph Albert Bergeron and Anna Shirley Bergeron (née Desjardins) of Mattawa. Dear sister of the late Lucille Elzire (Pat) Smith (née Bergeron) and the late Marguerite Mary "Margot" (Daniel) Tremblay (née Bergeron). Laure will be missed by her many nieces and nephews. Laure was born in Mattawa, Ontario and attended Mattawa High School and the Rideau Convent, Ottawa. She graduated with an R.N. from the University of Ottawa in 1943, and graduated from the University of McGill (1945) and the University of Toronto (1961) with Certificates in Public Health Nursing and Administration. Her career as a nurse spanned two decades; in the 1940s she worked at the University of Ottawa General Hospital and at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal assisting Dr. Wilder Penfield, and in the 1950s and 1960s at the Public Health Units of Toronto and then Halton Region. She studied music in Ottawa and then Montreal, receiving her Licentiate in Music; later in life she took up art and painting. Laure's passion was travelling, visiting dozens of countries on every continent over the course of her life.

Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds St, Oakville, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. Cremation to follow.
