On Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 4:38am, Maria Zulmira passed way in her 79th year at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
Born December 23rd, 1944 in Sao Mateus, Pico, Azores.
Predeceased by her mother Isabel Silva and her father Raul Silva, as well as her predeceased siblings Manuel Silva and Margarida Simas.
Maria was a devoted mother, aunt, godmother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be deeply missed by her son Manuel Serpa (Jayne), daughter Doreen Aitken (Iain), daughter Matilde Bite (Robert) and her beloved grandchildren Colleen, Dylan, Julia, Madeline, Brooke and Maija.
As well as her siblings, Judite Goulart (deceased John), Raul Silva (Eduardina), Maria Goulart (Inacio), Imberta Sousa, Conceicao Vieira (deceased Antonio), Amelia Oliveira (Jose), Tony Silva (Marilyn) and her many nieces and nephews.
Maria Zulmira was a devoted Roman Catholic who was very generous, humble, kind, hardworking, compassionate, beautiful human being.
She was a housekeeper for many years who went above and beyond. She took such great pride in her surroundings in and outside of the home. She loved to garden, going for walks, shopping, attending mass and spending time with her family.
Maria Zulmira volunteered at St Andrew's Catholic School and most recently at the Post Inn Village Nursing Home since 2019. She truly enjoyed helping others.
She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on March 1st, 2024 and fought incredibly hard against this terrible disease. Fortunately, she was able to enjoy a very short time of remission.
Donations can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada. Maria also loved the parks in the Town of Oakville - Memorial tree donations may be made through the Town Office .
Viewing to take place on Tuesday, July 23rd from 8:30am-10:30am at Kopriva Funeral Home, followed by Funeral at 11:00am at Mary Mother of God Parish and Internment at Glen Oaks Cemetery.
Family and Friends are invited to join us for the Celebration of Life directly after the Interment located at 216 Oak Park Blvd in Oakville.
