It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Kira (nee Lubkewycz) on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the age of 97.

Beloved spouse of Joseph Kira (predeceased 1994).

Most loved mother of Steve, Anne, Maria, Katrina Felix (spouse Paul) and Natalie Lawlor (spouse Tim).

Dear grandmother of Kira, Krista, Nathan, Emily, Melody, Marina, Jacob and Mathew and great-grandmother of Dakota and Mark.

Born in Dashivka, Ukraine, Maria emigrated to Canada from Germany after the war where she settled in Pointe Claire, Quebec. After her marriage to Joseph, they settled in Windsor, moving to Clarkson and finally to Oakville where she spent her final years at Post Inn Village. She was the last founding member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church.

A brave soul to the end, may she rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Oakville, Ontario or the Alzheimer's Society of Ontario are suggested.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 3, 2024 at the All Saints of Ukraine Chapel, St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre, 1280 Dundas Street West, Oakville from 10 am with a Funeral Service to follow in the Chapel at 11 am.  Interment St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery.
