It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Maria Giovanna "Jana" Aletto. She passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of March 1, 2025, with family at her side. She was born on June 17, 1936, in Valle Caudina, San Martino, Italy, to Teresa and Raimondo Vitagliano (both predeceased).  In 1959, she embarked on a new journey, immigrating to Canada to build a life filled with hope and opportunity. Later that year, she married her beloved husband, Pasquale Aletto (predeceased), beginning a beautiful chapter of love and family. Together, they welcomed their children Louis (predeceased), Rita (Loris), and Mary (Kevin).

A faithful and traditional woman, Jana was deeply involved in her church community. She found joy in singing in the choir, leading Bible study, and sharing her faith with others. Always generous, she actively participated in church bake sales and events, and supported underprivileged children through charitable donations. Above all, Jana cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their sporting events and extracurricular activities and was always nurturing them with traditional Italian home-cooked meals. Her cottage on Lake Simcoe was a special retreat, where she found peace surrounded by loved ones, and cultivated her love for gardening. She always found beauty in the nature that surrounded her, including the water, animals, trees and flowers. Jana found so much joy when taking walks in the autumn season, admiring the vibrant colours and landscapes.

Jana will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren Amanda (Ibrahim), Michael (Cristina), Matthew, Jordan, and Emma, great-grandchildren Mia and Axel, and many loved ones who reside in Italy. The entire family takes comfort in knowing that love never fades, and Jana's light will continue to shine in all of them.

In honor of Jana's life, a private family service will be held on Saturday, March 8th. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer Society of Canada.
