IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret Lilian
Sutton
August 12, 1926 – November 19, 2022
Margaret died in Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital November 19 after two weeks of palliative care, aged 96. Predeased by her two brothers, James and Robert Scally, and her son-in-law, Michael Shultz, she is survived by her husband Gerald, children Brian, Christine, Deborah and Malcolm, eight grandchildren , two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in Kingston, in 1944 she was awarded a full scholarship to Queen's University by the City of Kingston for obtaining the highest marks in the City on her senior matriculation. At Queen's, in her final year, she met the love of her life, and five days later they became engaged. They were married on graduation day in the Queen's chapel in 1948, and this year celebrated their 74 th wedding anniversary.
Over the years she and Gerry travelled extensively, with her knowledge of history enlightening holidays in many countries, some of which cannot be safely visited today. She never wanted a summer cottage; one house was enough for her, firstly in Lachine, Quebec, then Montreal West and finally Oakville.
Margaret, who raised her children in an atmosphere of love and mutual respect, had a life-long love of reading. She was a committed volunteer in the Red Cross and the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for 30 years. For 50 years she was actively involved in associations supporting developmentally handicapped people.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West in Oakville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Oakville Foundation For Intellectually Handicapped People, 2793 Huntington Trail, Oakville L6J 7G7.
