Margaret Anne Neely
March 2, 1934 - January 27, 2026
With great sadness, the family of Anne Neely wishes to announce her passing peacefully at Wyndham Manor in Oakville with her daughter Liz by her side. Anne was born in Glasgow Scotland on March 2, 1934. She was the 5th of seven children born to Elizabeth Locke and George Hughes.
Devoted mother to Elizabeth Gallagher (Sheldon) and Philip Gallagher of Calgary (Kerry), dear mother-in-law to Maria Luz Julian and loving stepmother to David Neely (Dorothy) and John Neely (Sharon). Proud grandmother of Joseph (Shannon), Katrina (Sean), Thomas (Quiana), Eric (Grace), Nicole (Ryan), Jeffery (Anna), Tara (Dan), John (Caitlin) and her many great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Agnes Harrington (Edward) of Burlington and Maureen Barker (Robert) of Millersburg Kentucky.
She is predeceased by her husband John Neely (2000), step-son Bruce Neely (2007), son Daniel Gallagher (2020) and siblings Elizabeth McInnes (Bill), Francis Hughes (Tillie), George Hughes (Maureen) and James Hughes (Pam).
Anne came to Canada in her late teens, following her sisters Betty and Agnes, in search of greater opportunities and adventure. She was a hardworking, determined and straightforward woman. Anne's commitment to her friends and family was steadfast and enduring. After her children were grown, Anne was fortunate to find love again with John Neely. Together they enjoyed dancing, travel, and best of all – their grandchildren.
In remembering Anne's life, we would be remiss not to celebrate her love of family, value of friendship, love of music, and empathy for those in need. A long-time member of the Guardian Angels Knitting Program, Anne knitted hundreds of blankets and baby outfits, mostly for hospitals, and later extended this to knit and crochet afghans for shelters.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
