Obituary

Margaret Finlay Messer, affectionately known as Margo, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on April 24, 2025, at Wyndham Manor. Born on July 3, 1940, in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, Margo embarked on a life of compassion and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

After completing her nursing education in Scotland, Margo made the bold decision to move to Canada in the 1960s. It was here that she met her beloved husband, Ron, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. The couple welcomed two children, Brian and Lorraine, and eventually settled in Oakville, where Margo continued her education to further her career as a registered nurse in cardiology. Her dedication to her profession and her patients was evident throughout her career, and her kindness and humor left a lasting impression on those she cared for. In 1995, Margo faced the profound loss of her husband, Reinhold "Ron" Messer, but she persevered with grace and resilience.

She continued to work until her retirement at the age of 65, and then embraced the role of a proud Oma, offering loving care and support to her grandchild. Margo enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, travelling, singing in the choir, golfing and spending time with family. Margo's legacy lives on through her children, Brian Messer (Tina), Lorraine Newell (John), grandchild, Seth Newell, her sister, Emma Woolfenden, sister-in-law, Inge Weck and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her caring nature and her unwavering kindness. In accordance with Margo's wishes, a private celebration of life will be held for family and close friends.

As we bid farewell, we remember Margo with a traditional Gaelic blessing:

May the road rise to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

May the rain fall softly upon your fields until we meet again,

And may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

Margo will be dearly missed, but her spirit and warmth will continue to guide those who knew and loved her.
