Obituary

Margaret Crawford

Margaret died on April 23, 2017. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Lynn, Marty and Ann; grandchildren Cameron and Carly and their mother Mary; sisters-in-law Katherine McKennirey and Sybil Crawford; niece and god child Christine McKennirey and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Margaret was born on a farm in Osceola, Ontario on February 24, 1926. She moved at a young age to Ottawa where she lived with her devoted parents Jim and Mary McKennirey, her older brother James, younger twin siblings Gerald and Geraldine, all now deceased. This was in the depression and while money was scarce, Margaret always said her family was rich in love.

After graduating from high school, she completed a secretarial course and started her career with the Federal Government in Ottawa. Seeking independence and an adventure, she transferred to a position in Whitehorse where she lived for a number of years before returning to Ottawa.

There she met her beloved Charles Crawford. They were married on September 7, 1953. They began their married life in Hull, Quebec and then moved to the Island of Montreal. The growing family spent many happy years in Dorval. Following Charles retirement, they lived in Smiths Falls, Ontario, his hometown, and then in Oakville, Ontario which was near their children and grandchildren. Charles died on August 25, 2002.

Visitation will take place Thursday, April 27 from 2:00–4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home at 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 1150 Monks Passage, Oakville at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017. Interment will follow at the Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.

Margaret was innately kind, wise, funny and devoted to her God and her family. Her beautiful smile, genuine interest in everyone and positive spirit uplifted all those in her presence. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
