It is with much sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Anne, peacefully in the arms of her husband at her condo in Oakville on December 7, 2015, at the age of 69 after a 6 month battle with cancer. Pre-deceased by her first husband Blair Slade (June 4, 1998) as well as her parents Garnet and Margaret, R.N., Bebensee and her brother Larry (Lanny). Survived by her sister Betty Devnick, R.N., of Canmore, AB and "favourite" nephew Scott. Loving mother to Darren (Jennifer), Todd (Julie), Trevor (Jess) Slade, and Gran to seven grandchildren: Chelsea, Jordan, Kaitlyn; Devon; Corey; Cole, Tate. Loving step-mother to John (Jade), and Matthew Brayman, and Gran to three step-grandchildren: Mikaela, Blake; Dyllan. Husband Paul married his soulmate and best friend in February 2000, and had almost 16 years of nonstop activity and fun. She will be greatly missed by all. Anne was a graduate of St Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, and was a top-notch loving and caring nurse. Caring for others was the cornerstone of her life. At age 53, she took up both snow skiing and golf under Paul's tutelage. Golf became her favorite sport, and as a hobby she followed virtually every PGA player. She was able to witness first-hand her favorite PGA player Jason Day, win the Canadian Open this past July at Glen Abbey in Oakville. Anne sat in an 18
th
hole suite all weekend, unable to walk the course, but saw him birdie the 18
th
to win the tournament! She was thrilled despite her (and his) tough circumstances.
Anne was also a very active tennis player, playing at Mississauga G & CC as well as the Ontario Racquet Club for over 25 years. She was also a member of Holi Mont Ski Club in Ellicottville, NY and a golf member at North Halton G & CC in Georgetown, as well as Kensington G & CC in Naples, Florida. Playing over 100 different golf courses worldwide with her hubby in the past 16 years was a stellar accomplishment, and 55 of those were private golf courses in the Naples area. As many would say: "Anne was a trooper". While vacationing in Naples, FL, she derived much pleasure by volunteering with their local Anglican Church (St. John's), working Saturday's alongside Habitat for Humanity. Helping those less fortunate build a home from fruits of their labour was truly rewarding.
Special thanks goes out to her fine oncologist at Princess Margaret Hospital, Dr. Raymond Jang and Dr. David Urbach (Prof. of Surgery, TGH) for their care. Unequivocal gratitude and appreciation go out to three dedicated doctors, Dr. Robin Lee (Brampton), Dr.'s Peter Bafundi and Mia Barnard (Toronto), who relentlessly searched in June and July to find the primary cancer site. Without their determination and expertise Anne would never have gotten to PMH. The family would also like to thank everyone else not mentioned: other medical professionals, friends, extended family, and kind strangers. Your advice, kindness, thoughts and prayers during Anne's final months are much appreciated.
A memorial service will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville, ON (905) 844-2600 at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015followed by refreshments.
