Peacefully at his home and surrounded by his loving and devoted family, four days after his 87th birthday, on Sunday, January 18, 2009, after a lengthy, valiant battle with cancer. Survived by his devoted, loving wife Dina, of over 57 years; his sons Joe (Michaela) and Dominic (Jan). Loving exemplary "Nonno" to Julia, Paola, Alana, Daniel and Olivia. Beloved brother to Victor (Amelia) and predeceased by his sister Maria. Special thanks to Dr. J. Yates, "Il Colonnello" doctor extraordinaire, right to the end and to a compassionate Dr. J. Kirby. Thanks to CCAC, The Acclaim Health Care Team and the Red Cross support workers, who made our difficult time much easier. Luigi was passionate about many things. Passionate about his wife and family. Also his beloved homeland, Italy. Passionate about Canada and doing his part along with many other hard working Italians of his generation who helped build this nation with their bare hands. Passionate about passing on to his family, values and traditions such as honour, integrity, humour, hard work, the importance of the family, and his faith. Self taught in the trades, he could do anything he set his mind to. He was tireless and meticulous about his vegetable garden, a true thing of beauty, order and love, just like our Nonno Gigi. Baci Nonno! Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Saint Dominic Roman Catholic Church, 2415 Rebecca Street, Oakville. Entombment will be held at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens, Oakville. If desired, memorial contributions to Ian Anderson House, the Canadian Cancer Society or Acclaim Health would be appreciated by the family.
