Lloyd Thomas Cyrus Long, 66, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Ian Anderson House surrounded by family following a long battle with Cancer and Parkinsons. He leaves his wife of 41 years, Elizabeth (Simons) Long; and his children; Andrew Long, Christine Olsen (Long), Kathryn Long and Jennifer Long; their families including two grandchildren; and many family friends. Born and raised in Gravenhurst, Ontario, the son of Lloyd Elmer (deceased) and Agnes Victoria (Thomson) Long, since 1972 he has been a resident of Oakville, Ontario. After Lloyd Sr. lost his life serving with the RCAF in WWII, Lloyd grew up under the loving care of his mother in the Muskoka area. After graduating from Gravenhurst Public High School, he attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1966. He met his wife, Elizabeth Long, through his U of T roommate Frank Simons, they were married in 1968 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. In 1966, he started his first engineering job with Texaco before moving into a risk management role with Factory Mutual, before landing at Aon Reed Stenhouse. Through his work Lloyd was able to travel many places around the world, and for a short time he lived with Ella and Andrew in Paris, France and Calgary, AB. Over the years, his wealth of knowledge and expertise lead to him being a Senior Vice Presidents at Aon with a highly respected reputation in the Risk Management Industry. Lloyd had a passion for his family and for information. He was known to be very dedicated to his job as he would regularly take his four children into work to help him collate presentations and to have office chair races. He was also very well known to each of his children, his family and friends as the mecca for any and all advice. Lloyd was a good man, he coped with his illnesses bravely and will be sorely missed by his family. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 14th at 11 AM at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W, Oakville, ON (905) 844-2600.
