LEWIS H. CAMPBELL
November 17, 1926 to January 28, 2022
Lew was born in Montreal in 1926, the youngest of seven siblings. In 1943 Lew joined the armed forces and was trained as a tank driver, serving in England and Holland. On his return to Montreal, Lew worked many different jobs, married his sweetheart Mary in 1948, and finally joined Shell Canada as an operator. Lew thrived at Shell. In 1962 Lew was transferred to Oakville, Ontario to work on the start-up of a new refinery. He worked at the Oakville plant and saw it through to its shutdown in 1983. Through hard work and diligence he rose through the company to become an expert in the education & training of refinery personnel. As a recognized leader in this field, Lew was a member of the American Petroleum Institute and attended many conferences across the USA and Canada, including sharing his expertise with refinery workers in Thailand.
After retirement, Lew and Mary travelled widely throughout the USA and were regular snowbirds in Gulf Shores, Alabama. They also enjoyed cruises around North America, the Caribbean, and an amazing cruise starting in Brazil and sailing around Cape Horn to finally land in Chile. Golf was a pastime both Lew and Mary enjoyed.
As a young man in Montreal, Lew joined the Masonic Lodge. When he moved to Oakville he affiliated with Claude M Kent Lodge and was an active member of the Lodge throughout his life. Lew was also a proud member of the Rameses Shrine and an active member of the Oakville Shrine Club. He will be fondly remembered as the bass drummer in their marching band, entertaining children in Shrine parades across southern Ontario.
Lew Campbell was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and was most recently an Elder at Knox Sixteen.
Lew will be missed by his wife Mary, their two children Brian and Brenda, five grandchildren, and five great-granddaughters.
Due to current restrictions, there will be a celebration of Lewis Campbell's life at a later date.
