Obituary

Laurie was born in Springville NY on July 25th 1963 to Geraldine and Lee Meacham. She grew up on 500 acre working farm in Ellicottville NY.  As a girl she worked the fields with her family.  She had fond memories of cutting lumber with her dad and the aide of a team of horses.  She was the beloved mother of Erin Wright and wife to Mark Wright.  Though she and Mark were divorced they remained friends until his passing in 2011.  She was a sister to 6 siblings, two of whom have sadly predeceased her.

She started out her working life by attending secretarial school and working as an executive assistant at Nabisco.  During this time she aided her brother Ken through the illness that took his life. Taking an active part in his care helped her to discover her passion and aptitude for medicine. Shortly after his passing she left Nabisco and in her mid-30s retrained to become a Registered Massage Therapist.  She had an incredible mind for details and a thirst for knowledge.  She loved learning about medicine and applying her skills to solving her clients' problems.  She was an avid nature lover and appreciated the outdoors through her long walks. She loved working in her home garden growing vegetables and had an impressive English garden. Many of the flowers in this garden came to her as seeds that she picked up on walks or through her travels out of town.

Laurie had always been a spiritual seeker but connected with her strong faith when she became a Christian as an adult.  As she recovered from a series of car accidents, she sought diligently God's help and guidance.  Again her intellect and keen mind found answers and support.  Her resulting faith was strong and steadfast.  It sustained her through life's subsequent challenges, including her final battle with ovarian cancer that took her life only a short 15 months after her diagnosis.  She did not feel her journey on earth was complete but had given her life to God.  She knew she was going to a better place.  She was comforted to know that she was going home to Jesus and into the arms of her loved ones who had passed on before her.  She was happy to be united with her dear brother Ken, her dad Lee, Erin's father Mark and her father in-law Ron.  She missed them all so much, as we miss her.

She leaves behind her daughter who misses her more than words can express and who was glad to have this last year fighting by her side.  Although the circumstances were not what either would have chosen, they both valued the unique time spent together and became closer than ever.  Erin will cherish their happy memories, especially their trip to Paris for her 50 th Birthday.

Through her illness Laurie spoke often about writing to all of you and wanting to express how grateful she was to have all her wonderful friends by her side.  She treasured all the happy memories that she shared with her friends, family and clients.  She will be dearly missed and will always have a place in our hearts.
