Obituary

Kris Helen Provias

(nee Lipnicki)

October 25th, 1926, to June 18th, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kris Helen Provias, in her 100th year. Kris was a wonderful Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Mother-in-law, Aunt, Friend and Teacher. Kris grew up on a farm in the Kitchener area as one of seven children. The farm life led her to a healthy active lifestyle that contributed to her longevity. She fought the 1960’s trend of space age foods like Tang and “colour your own” margarine and ensured we always had fresh vegetables on the table.

Kris was sharp as a tack until the end of her days, running the family household and organizing family affairs. Kris met her husband Peter, while at teachers’ college in Brantford, Ontario and they had a long and happy marriage raising three boys. Kris was a beloved teacher and influenced many young lives for the better. Kris taught for over 40 years at Gladys Speers, John Wilson, East View, E. J. James, and other public schools in Oakville, eventually retiring in the mid 1980’s.

Golfing played a significant role in Kris’ family life with most summers spent at the Trafalgar Golf and Country Club. She was an active volunteer at the Junior day events and played in many of club tournaments. Kris unbelievably aced the 13th hole much to her husband’s chagrin, as he never did get the elusive hole in one. Kris also volunteered at the Canadian Open for many years and was the first to welcome a young Tiger Woods at his first Canadian Open in the year 1996.

Kris had many hobbies. She enjoyed her pottery classes, curling, lakeside walks, taking drives with her boys, and was an avid reader of mystery novels and life stories. Kris also was a fan of the Royal Family following all special occasions and was especially proud of her letter from Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her and Peter’s 50th wedding anniversary.

Kris was incredibly caring and her boys loved her deeply. As a strong-minded woman, Kris organized her life affairs in a thoughtful and efficient way, knowing that one day we would have to carry on without her.

Kris was blessed to have a great-grandson, Peter, a toddler, and she would sing songs and clap with him as he danced around.

Kris is survived by her son Michael, her son James and his wife Deborah, her grandson Hayden and his wife Nicole, her great-grandson Peter and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her four brothers and two sisters, her husband, Peter (2018) and son, John (2025).
