Kenneth Desmond Oswald Searl

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Searl. Ken will be missed by his wife Muriel of 67 years, his daughter Gail and her husband Michael, his granddaughters Alexandra, Rachel & Jacqueline, his great grandchildren, Rory and Blake, his sister Jean, and many dear friends. Ken was predeceased by his son, Richard, and his brothers Peter and Michael who we hope he is now reunited with.

Ken was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad where he attended Queens College and subsequently worked for the Royal Bank. He was transferred to Antigua where he met and fell in love with Muriel deSilvia. They married and later relocated to St. Kitts, where his two children were born.

Ken and family immigrated to Canada in December 1959 where his life work included being a bond trader, insurance and food service sales, and lastly and most famously, the owner of Henessy's Cigar Store in Oakville. Ken had a huge personality and patrons of Hennessy's would always be greeted with a "hi there, young fella" or a "good morning, darling". There was always a pot of coffee and lively conversation to be had. His larger than life personality was only surpassed by his heart. He often extended goods and credit to those in need and made friends with everyone he met. He retired in 1990 and spent his time traveling with his wife and friends, wintering in Antigua and summering at his beloved cottage on Kahshe Lake. Ken's family give thanks to the staff and friends at Northridge LTC for the wonderful care and compassion they showed to him and his family during his 7 year stay with them.
