Obituary
Kasimir "Kash" Leonard Charabin, devoted husband, loving father, two-time grandfather, kind, and generous friend, left this world suddenly, unexpectedly, at home on Monday, January 16, 2023, with his three children nearby.
Kash was born in the Prince District of Saskatchewan, just outside of North Battleford, in the middle of the Great Depression, May 15, 1935. He grew up sharing a two-room farmhouse with his parents, Frank and Annie (nee Wielga), his brothers, Walter and David, and his sisters, Cecilia, and Frances, all now deceased. Kash was the baby of the family.
In the 1950s, Kash ran away to Montreal to pursue his seemingly impossible ambition of becoming an airline pilot. But succeed he did, eventually ascending to the lofty perch of an Air Canada 747 cockpit - as Captain.
It was also in Montreal where he met the love of his life, Joan Ann Abbott. They married July 12, 1958 and eventually moved to Burlington, Ontario. They would have celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary this summer. Joan has been living at Burloak Long Term Care for the past few years and has made it through Covid isolation in no small part due to the constant, loving, attention of her husband.
Kash is survived by his wife Joan, children, Geoff, Alison, and Jennifer, and their respective partners, Carmen, Bruce, and Cam, and by his two beautiful grandsons, Kasimir and Henry.
Kash lived 87 years and lived them well, and in his final days he was still looking forward. He had just bought new hearing aids, had had his teeth fixed and his cataracts removed, and was looking forward to a continued independent life, on the move and still driving - and without glasses! He recently enjoyed a hearty and spirited Greek dinner with his children and their spouses, happy to be surrounded by those he loved dearly, and who loved him back unequivocally. It was a wonderful night.
Families, friends, and colleagues all agree that Kash was fun loving, caring, and a devoted husband, father, and mentor to all who were fortunate to have spent time with him.
A service will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W. Oakville, Ontario. Visitation from 1-3pm, service at 3pm, reception to follow. The service will be available via livestream for loved ones who are unable to attend in person.
