Obituary

Passed away on October 10, 2010 in Oakville. Loved, cherished and respected by his wife of 27 years, Shirley: daughter Kourtney (Rob); and sons Tanner (Silvia), Kris (Rose), and Karson; and grandchildren Austin, Gavin and Kaiden. His sister Kathy and mother-in-law Corinne will fondly remember Kalin. Kalin was the founder of Emma's Back Porch and the Water Street Cooker. Together with his business partner and close friend Craig Kowalchuk. Kalin helped create an enduring local institution loved by his customers, friends and family. The restaurant was also active in helping local charities. Kalin was particularly proud of his support for Halton Women's Place and community events. He was also an active father and grandfather attending countless baseball and hockey games, ballet recitals, school events and birthdays. He often travelled throughout Canada and the United States to share these special moments with his family. Kalin was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and played for the Dixie Beehives in Junior "A" hockey. He also played golf for Ohio State where his golf team won several tournaments. His Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday October 14, 2010 at the Water Street Cooker, 2084 Lakeshore Drive, Burlington, Ontario. In Kalin's memory, donations may be made to the London Regional Cancer Program at the London Health Sciences Center. To donate, please visit http://www.lhsf.ca/index.asp.
