IN LOVING MEMORY OF
June Franchetto
(Barton, Nee Edwards)
June 4, 1929 – April 3, 2023
June Franchetto (Barton, nee Edwards)
June 4, 1929 to April 3, 2023
We lost our dear, sweet, June on April 3rd. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Creek Way Village, Burlington.
Loving Mum of Susan and her husband Fraser Laing, John Barton and his wife Donna. Proud and loving grandmother (Gonie) to Johnathan Pritchard (Alana). Fondly remembered by the children of Martin Franchetto, Bill(d.2023), Elaine, Tom, Jim, Christine and their spouses and children. Proud Aunt of Andrew Plumridge (Susan), Gordon Plumridge(Denise) and their children.
June was predeceased by her father, John Russell Edwards , her mother Emily Eve Edwards (nee Herod), her sister Margaret Plumridge (nee Edwards), her first husband Phil Barton, her stepson Steve Barton, and her second husband Martin Franchetto.
June was born In England and was living in Watford when World War II broke out. She carried a gas mask and the family lived on rations. The war changed many things, she lost her father, who she adored, when he was quite young due to the stress of his wartime job. During the war her family billeted several American Airman, and she continued to keep in touch with these Airman for over 60 years.
June and Phil immigrated to Canada in 1953, with their two young children, leaving all her family and friends behind.
All of her life June loved animals and so wanted to attend Veterinary School. Her parents insisted she go to Business College instead, which she absolutely hated. Growing up the family home was filled with all sorts of pets and of course rescues. Dogs, cats, rabbits, budgies, canaries, hamsters, fish, and of course anything that needed rescuing and sent back to the wild, there was never a dull moment. Then came Robin Hill Stable, this was a dream come true for June's love for all animals. It was a wonderful, happy time.
June learned how to drive later in life. Then came her next adventure. It was a big one too. She purchased The Violet Flower Shop in Oakville. How she loved her days at the store. Of course nothing wouldn't be complete without a rescue. Casper her beautiful Moluccan Cockatoo, took up residence and was quite a hit with her customers coming in to purchase flowers.
Always up for an adventure, retirement didn't slow her down. With her second husband, Martin, she travelled to many different countries. They walked the Bruce Trail together from beginning to end and created many fond memories together.
June had an incredibly kind heart and was always there to help anyone in need. Family, friends and strangers. She dedicated many volunteer hours to several organizations including Good Shepherd Centre. She was a good and loyal friend and was always available to help and support in any way she could.
Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Creek Way Village for the love and care you provided to June during her stay with you. Thank you with all our hearts.
Her light shall forever shine. Let us never forget her kind heart.
