Obituary

Born at Dentonia, a residence built by her grandfather Walter Edward Hart Massey and his wife Susan Denton. Daughter of Madeline and Dr. James Edward Knox, she was raised by her mother and grandmother. A life long music-lover, Judith attended Branksome Hall and became an accomplished pianist. She married George Victor Young at age 19 and had five sons. James Edward (Ted) Massey (Linda); George Victor - stage name Scot Denton (Amanda); Denton Scott (Susanne); Terence Hart (Gloria); and Peter Knox (Dagmar). With four of these sons underfoot and the fifth on the way, her husband studied successfully to become an Anglican priest and she became a vital part of his ministry, first at St. Matthias in Etobicoke and then at St. Anne's in downtown Toronto, where her hospitality and good humour created a second home for innumerable friends.

Judy was always ready to play sports and games with her sons, a legacy of her summers at Camp Oconto, which she remembered fondly all her life. She became an accomplished artist, sculpture and author. Her book, Given a Chance , celebrated her life and her relationship with her children and grandchildren. Pre-deceased by her husband, by her sisters Joan (Bernard Howe), Janet (Clark Horning), and her brother James Edward (Rosemary).
Much loved grandma Judy/Tamma to grandchildren Shelagh, Ted, Allegra, Luke, Tiana, Madeline, Vanessa, Hart, Martha, Diana, and Catherine, and great-grandchildren Natasha, Lauren, Eleanor, Todd, Eric, Evan and AJ. Judy never lost her love of stories, especially the laughs she got from A.A. Milne and, of course, the many foibles of her offspring.
