OBITUARY
Joseph (Joe) Albert Vet
Born Ulft, the Netherlands, March 18, 1929
Died peacefully July 19, 2025- at the age of 96
Joe was a devoted husband to his late wife Emmie, loving father to Elaine (Ted Parkinson), Paul (Jill), and the late Caroline (Jim Yurchuk). Loving granddad of Eric Parkinson (Teal), Jenny (Dean Broadfoot), Cassie (Cyle Hatch), Emily (Jozef Duijvestein), Jacob Vet, Emmie Yurchuk & Evan Yurchuk. Devoted great granddad to Ella, Owen, Avery, Ross, Heidi, Josie, Caroline, Anna, Lily, Logan and Lucas.
Joe and Emmie emigrated to Canada on July 1, 1954. They started the Violet Flower Shop in Oakville in 1958. The shop was awarded as a worldwide top 100 member in FTD. After 25 years of operating in downtown Oakville, he sold the business and became a successful real estate agent. In retirement, Joe enjoyed travelling with Emmie, spending time with grandchildren, playing golf and going for coffee with friends.
Joe volunteered with Sleeping Children Around the World (www.scaw.org) for years- travelling to India and Sri Lanka to distribute bed kits to children. Later he visited area Rotary Clubs to increase awareness of SCAW and its mission.
Joe was outgoing and made new friends easily, including his last few years at Chartwell Trafalgar.
Joe loved Emmie dearly and visited her daily at Sunrise Retirement Home and Post Inn Village until she passed in October 2022.
Joe continued to enjoy travel in his 90s, going on trips to Italy with Paul in October 2023, a European River Cruise with Ted and Elaine in August 2024, and a trip to his homeland with Elaine and Evan in November 2024.
Joe was a charter member and Paul Harris Fellow in the Oakville Trafalgar Rotary Club. He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus 60 Degree Club.
A man of strength, deep devotion and love, he led his family well. Joe was a faithful member at St. Andrews's Church.
