Regimental Sergeant Major, MiD CD
It is with love and admiration for a life well lived that we announce the passing of Duke on December 30th, 2008 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Stone (deceased 1989) and father of Carolyn and Susan (Glenn Hebron) Stone of Calgary, Alberta, and Joseph (Tamara) Stone of Burlington, Ontario. Dear grandfather to Trent and Abbey Stone. Duke will always be remembered for his love of country—he was a career soldier who entered the army as a member of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and who served in World War II and the Korean War. After 30 years of military service, Duke retired in Oakville, however began a second career at Union Gas Ltd. Throughout the years, Duke enjoyed hockey (particularly the Toronto Maple Leafs and Team Canada), military history, and the company of friends and family. His strength of character remained constant throughout his life, as did his memories of the past and his comrades who fought in the war—they were never far from his thoughts. A memorial celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, January 14th, 2009 at the Victory Hall of the Bronte Legion Branch 486, located on 79 Jones Street in Oakville at 7:00 p.m. A reception will follow service. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Bronte Legion Branch 486.
