IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jose Vieira
Garcia
April 6, 1937 – October 21, 2023
The Day Jose passed his family and friends were by his side sharing beautiful memories they had with him…. As the day turned to night Jose decided this was the time to go and passed peacefully holding his wife of 63 years Maria Idalina as he took his last breath.
Jose was born in Pico, Azores, Portugal and at the age of 24 decided to follow his Sister Maria Helena & brother Manuel for a better life and emigrated to Canada with his wife Maria Idalina and their daughter Maria Helena…. They settled in the Town of Oakville having 3 more Children, Joe, Anthony & Angela.
Jose and a group of friends in the 60's started one of the first Portuguese Social Clubs in Ontario & for many years the Club was recognized as the most successful in Ontario. The Festival's attendance of tens of thousands of people who attended are talked about today as legendary stories.
Jose spent most of his working life employed at the Town of Oakville as an Arena Operator he loved his job & was fully committed to do the best he could do like no one else…. His personality that consisted of SELF-DISCIPLINE, DETERMINATION, PASSION, COMMITMENT & LOYALTY was passed on to his Children & Grand Children. If you were a friend of his, he was completely loyal and committed to helping you with anything - all you had to do is ask. This was exhibited where he was personally responsible for helping numerous relatives & friends find employment with the Town of Oakville and extended to his work in the Union wanting to make sure all his co-workers were treated with utmost of professionalism.
Jose was an avid gardener, loved his flowers, trees, and bushes which he meticulously looked after with passion and his garden was worthy of being on the front page of garden magazines….
In his early 50's he was diagnosed with diabetes and his Personality went to work where he once again overcame the disease with nutrition and exercise plan. Due to his success he was asked many times to speak for the Ontario Diabetes Association.
Jose leaves behind wife of 63 years Maria Idalina; Daughters Maria & Angela, Sons Joe & Anthony. Daughter & Son in Laws, Agostino, Margaret, Mark & Yolanda; Grand Children, Andy, Lori & her husband Mike , Matthew & his wife Tania, Kyle, Vanessa & her fiancé Steven, Dawson, Serena and Ryan; Great Grand Children Lucas, Christopher, Jayden, Julian, Selena & Mateo; God Son Manuel, & numerous Nieces & Nephews…
In our depth of Grieving we honour Jose as a man who led by example fought for his friends and family with Passion and energy that is rarely matched, he would not stop until the job was done & loved with the same intensity.
We are comforted that his 2 sisters Maria Angelina, Maria Helena, brother Manuel, and parents were all at the Gates of Heaven waiting for him to Transition with LOVE….
With Great Gratitude we would like to thank the Northridge Long Term care staff especially the PSW's & Nurses for taking good care of him.
