On Monday February 21, 2011 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital from complications due to strokes. John leaves behind his adored wife of 60 years, Nancy (nee Provan), and a daughter, Ann (Michael), and a son James (Delia). He also leaves behind a granddaughter Jennifer (Pete), and a grandson Michael (Audrianna).
John was loved by his many friends, and will be sorely missed by all. He was a naturally gifted musician who played many instruments. His sense of humour was well-known among his friends and family. He left Scotland as a young man and brought his family here to begin a new life. He was loved on both sides of the pond. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Wednesday. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn Street, Oakville on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00 am. There will be a celebration of his life at the church reception hall immediately following the service. The family would like to thank the staff of OTMH and the wonderful nurses in 4 East, especially Liz, Victoria, Julia and Danielle. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions be made to Cystic Fibrosis Research or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated.
