It is with heavy hearts we announce that John Ernest Jasenec passed away with family by his side in Oakville, Ontario on Wednesday, August 6th, 2014 at the age of 77 after a 9-month battle with brain cancer. John had a long distinguished 32-year career with the Metropolitan Separate School Board (MSSB) and was very proud of his accomplishments and the friends he made over his tenure at the MSSB. John retired in 1995 as Deputy Director of Education, Administrative Services, Assistant Secretary and Treasurer. John was also a member of various associations and was honoured to be President of the Toronto Chapter Slovak Catholic Sokol for many years. John was preceded in death by his parents Appolena and Ernest; daughters Susan Jasenec and Laurie Burrows. John is survived by his loving wife Helen; son John and daughter-in-law Julie; son-in-law Bruce Burrows and grandsons Alex and Daniel; sister Anne Fundarek and nieces/nephews of the Krupa, Fundarek and Szabo families. John will be remembered for his love, generosity, big heart and great sense of humour. A viewing will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home at 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, ON, Sunday, August 10th 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Mass will be held on Monday, August 11th at 10:30am at St. Dominic's Parish, 2415 Rebecca Street, Oakville, ON. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thyme to Thrive Foundation.
