IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John
Edge
November 15, 1934 – December 29, 2024
John Edge passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024 at the age of 90 at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga ON.
He is survived by his children Alan (Elizabeth) Jacqueline, Karen and Louise (Paul) and his grandchildren Erika, Jackson, Jack and Madigan, as well as his cousin Gilbert Docherty of Montreal.
John, son of Albert and Mary Edge, was born in Drummondville QC, lived in Verdun for much of his childhood until the family moved to St-Lambert in the 1950's. He attended McGill University – met his future bride-to be Elizabeth Richards, our wonderful and loving mother. They married in 1959.
John was proud and loved being an engineer! He spoke fondly of his time at McGill in the 1950's, the Plumber's Pot, the jazz clubs, Leonard Cohen and the nightlife. He was a true believer in education, bilingualism and encouraged all of his children to continue learning through travel and life experiences. He felt it was important to show his family the beauty of Canada, and since he did not like to fly, he purchased a VW camper and drove us from coast to coast. We remember the many road trips so fondly.
John worked at a number of engineering firms in Montreal, the Royal Victoria Hospital and ended his career with CP Rail as the Director of corporate premises.
Once retired, John and Elizabeth relocated to Oakville ON in 1997 to be closer to their growing family – specifically their young grandchildren.
John was an avid reader and had a keen appreciation for many genres of music including, classical, jazz, calypso and rock to name a few. He was an audiophile who enjoyed filling our family household with music. Constantly!
John was also known for his quick wit, sense of humour and his sarcasm. He enjoyed a pint and a good laugh. He was artistic and had a keen eye for colour, and especially design. He loved sleek cars, and well-designed watches and pens. He dabbled with watercolour painting in his retirement years and served as president of the Oakville Art Society in the early 2000's.
He could often be spotted wearing his signature Greek fisherman hats and like to quote lines from his favorite '70s TV series "Kojak". He didn't golf, or fish or use power tools. He was not a sports fan nor an outdoor enthusiast. Choosing the right Father's day card was a challenge!
John was an excellent provider, husband, father and grandfather. He was extremely knowledgeable and liked to impart his wisdom on his four children. He was also an excellent writer and wrote powerful and persuasive letters on our behalf when called upon when we needed assistance.
John wished for a private cremation after which the immediate family will celebrate his life. His ashes will be joining Elizabeth's, at a later date, at the beautiful and serene garden at the Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery in Oakville ON.
We will miss you so much Dad. Forever in our thoughts.
