IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John (Gianfranco)
Cosani
September 2, 1931 – January 19, 2024
John (Gianfranco) passed away surrounded by his loving family the evening of January 19, 2024 at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Miranda, and his daughters Linda Grudzinski (Richard), Denise Morris (Stewart) and granddaughters Lauren and Alexa.
John was born in Osoppo, Italy to Teodolinda and Giordano Cosani on September 2, 1931. His older sister Madalena unfortunately passed away from meningitis when he was just an infant. Although born in Italy, he spent much of his childhood in France just outside of Paris so was fluent in both Italian and French. He completed his high school education in France.
After the end of Second World War, on April 7, 1952 John emigrated from Italy to Canada aboard the M/N Saturnia with only $15 dollars in his pocket and not speaking any English. He was sponsored by his Aunt Maria Noro who lived in Port Credit. John was extremely resourceful and determined; he learned English in night school while working odd jobs during the day to support himself.
On August 2, 1958, he married the "Love of his Life" Miranda Castellani in Port Credit at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. That very same year, they bought their first and only home in Oakville for $14,000…a truly amazing achievement for a young couple who both arrived to this country with next to nothing.
John was a very proud and dedicated father, grandfather and husband. An extremely hard working and intelligent man, who never had the opportunity to pursue a higher level of education for himself, he took immense satisfaction and pleasure in seeing his children and grandchildren succeed in life.
John initially worked as a Tool and Die Machinist at Westinghouse. In 1960, John laid out and fitted the first mine power center for the Alberta Tar Sands. He later worked at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Company, building and designing wing assemblies. John went onto become Production Supervisor at Teledyne LAARS Canada until his retirement. John was also a very accomplished handy man having completed numerous family home renovations virtually on his own. He loved his garden, making red wine, and travelling to warm and sunny beach destinations. John was a very proud grandfather and found great joy in watching his grandchildren grow.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chartwell Waterford Retirement Residence for their compassionate care and support for John over the past two years.
