Obituary

Surrounded by his loving family it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Caldarevic. He will always be remembered by his loving wife Xenia, his daughters Annie and Mira (Michael), his grandchildren Taylor and Chelsea (Ryan) and Peter, who were by his side until the very end at the Oakville Hospital on Friday, August 25th, 2023.

John Caldarevic was born in 1930 to entrepreneurs Petar Caldarevic and Sofija Caldarevic (Zepek) in Zagreb, Croatia. He was a wonderful father, loving husband and described by many friends as simply amazing. John completed a year at the Faculty of Law and then graduated from the Geodetic Technical Faculty in Geodetics Engineering at the University of Zagreb. John came to Canada with his wife and daughter in 1969, where he joined the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors and launched a lucrative career. His greatest achievements include the CN Tower, Ontario Place and many projects in Canada with geodetic requirements in the energy sector. Prior to his retirement, John ignited his entrepreneurial spirit and cultivated a successful business and spent most of his time travelling between Europe and Canada.

John was passionate about creating awareness of the Croatian culture in the Toronto Community and organized many activities to promote the development of business relations, trade and cultural events. As a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, he launched Lodge 515 in Toronto followed by Lodge 2000 in Zagreb that supported Croatian heritage.

During his retirement, he donated to the restoration of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Pregrada, Croatia, where a plaque in his honour still remains today.

Our family would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support during this difficult time. We are deeply grateful for the PSW's from ParaMed, Oakville Hospital healthcare workers, staff and first responders for your dedication and expertise.

A private service will be held for John.  In lieu of flowers please donate to the Oakville Humane Society .
