In Cherished Memory of
Capt. John Ritchie Bell
July 2, 1936 – July 20, 2026
On July 20, John spread his wings and set sail on his final voyage into the sunset. He will be deeply missed, and we are profoundly grateful for the warmth, kindness, and wonderful memories he brought into all of our lives.
Born in Woodbridge, Ontario, to the late Margaret and Alan Bell, John discovered his passion for aviation at a young age. As a Junior Ranger, he was flown to Northern Ontario to assist in combating a forest fire—an experience that sparked a lifelong love of flying. He later served in the Royal Canadian Air Force before embarking on a distinguished career as a pilot with Trans-Canada Air Lines (TCA), which later became Air Canada.
Away from the cockpit, John embraced life with enthusiasm. He enjoyed sports car driving, was an avid sailor, and was passionate about building and flying model airplanes. He also appreciated relaxing with a fine single malt Scotch or a good glass of wine.
Retirement gave John the opportunity to devote even more time to the pursuits he loved most. He continued sailing, building and flying model airplanes, and looked forward to his Thursday morning bridge games at the Sir John Colborne Seniors' Centre.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ursula. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Karen (Marcel), and his cherished grandchildren, Jacques, Jessica, and Cassandra.
