Passed away peacefully at Joseph Brant Hospital on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in his 97th year. Predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane (2007), his sister, Anne and grandchildren, Jennifer and Shawn. Remembered by his sons, Paul (Linda), John and Richard (Shobie). Grandfather to Corey (Crystal) and Viktor and great grandfather to Cassie Dee, Carlo and Chloe. Graveside service at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery in Oakville on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 12:30 pm.
John was born in Croatia on January 26, 1928 and emigrated to Canada in 1938. He lived in Sudbury for many years. He moved to Niagara on the Lake and worked on the farms and finished high-school. John was one of the first people to work at the Ford Motor plant in Oakville when it opened in 1953 and worked there for 30 years. John was a big supporter of the union and was a UAW member for over 42 years. He also was big supporter of the Royal Canadian Legion in Burlington where he liked to play pool. John married Mary Jane Prpich in 1951 and were married for over 50 years. They raised three boys together. They liked to travel and toured Canada and many of the States. John was an avid reader and liked a wide variety of topics from history to politics. He also spoke several Slavic languages. In his later years John enjoyed activities and festivals at the waterfront.
Flowers can be sent to Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home. Donations in his memory can be made to the Holy Trinity Croatian Church or to a charity of your choice.
