After a life filled with music and a loving family, Hans died peacefully at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Liesel and loving father of Johannes (Dory), Michael with his blended family with eight children and Isabelle Lyons (Jim). Hans was lovingly called "Avo" by all of the grandchildren and step-grandchildren, including Stephanie Coleman (Peter), Cassandra, Christopher, Emily and Sarah (Lyons), and great-grandchild, Madelyn (Coleman). Every child and friend of Hans has celebrated Avo's culinary skills and treasures the cookbook he compiled of the family favourites. Brother-in-law of Sixta Lacraz (and the late Georges), Uli Rotterdam (Riet) and pre-deceased by Hans-Michael Rotterdam, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends and colleagues alike. Hans enjoyed a distinguished international career, became Senior Vice President of Marketing at Inco, and then was the first President of the Nickel Development Institute. Hans was a proud member of both the St. Andrew Church choir and Toronto Mendelssohn choir of which he was president; he will be remembered for his beautiful tenor voice. Hans Schade was an avid and magnanimous story teller; all who knew him will recall his skill at making them feel that they had travelled the world along with him. His love for classical music and opera, his skills as a sailor, and member of The Probus Club made him many treasured friendships. The visitation will take place at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600) from 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m on Wednesday May 21, 2014. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday May 22, 2014 at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds St., Oakville. Interment will take place at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery. Special thanks to all of the doctors and staff at OTMH, Churchill Place and especially at the Carpenter Hospice for the care of Hans.
