Joan was born on February 6, 1941 in County Down, Northern Ireland and passed away peacefully in Oakville on November 28, 2024.  She leaves behind Ian Waid, her loving husband, devoted companion and partner of 55 years.

Joan was a wonderful, warm and loving mother to her daughters Karen (Matthew Ross) and Kelly (Jeff Plate).  She leaves her adored grandchildren, Sean, Graham, Edlyn, Clyde and Fiona. She was a much-loved sister-in-law of Elizabeth Waid (Grant Kerr d. 2022).

Joan was predeceased by her sister Pat, her brother-in-law Todd McMillen and her brother Dennis Graham.  She leaves her dear nephews Rory, Kevin and Brian McMillen of Northern Ireland and their families.

Joan's fun-loving Northern Irish roots never left her. Her home was always welcoming for friends, family and friends of friends.  It was also filled over the years with family dogs, cats, at times rabbits and even a duck or a goat or two.

She loved to laugh and dance and was always up for another adventure with Ian. Her love of travel, exploring new lands and new cultures saw Joan repeatedly face her fear of flying so she and Ian could explore the world together.  Joan knew the important things in life and will be deeply missed.

A private service will be held.  In lieu of flowers donations to Acclaim Health or the charity of your choice would be welcome.
